You give notice so that they can find a replacement and so that you don't burn any bridges on your way out. You never know when you're going to need them for a reference.

You give notice because they have to plan for your replacement. When you are fired, it is because there is a problem that the company does not want to continue with?

Legally you don't really have to give 2 weeks notice but it's usually good form to do it because you might want a good reference from that company.

Again, you do not have to give a notice, but as a hiring manager, I have always made it a point to not hire anyone who did not give their previous job a 2 week notice. Those people usually would quit without notice on me.

This is not possible in India as employment terms are Governed by Laws.A diffirent sets are applicable to Managers/Executive and another to Workers category.

The law gives equal rights to both employer and employee.

You do not have to give notice but they also do not have to give you a good reference if you leave them in a lurch.It is common curtesy to give notice or at least offer to give notice if you want to leave on good terms.
If you are terminated it is usually becuase you screwed up or they cant afford to pay you anymore.They do not need a reference from you however. You do not have to give notice but it is advisable.

They can fire you 'on the spot' only with proper cause. Otherwise, you qualify for unemployment.
"Proper Cause' would be you doing something wrong, and they have a good reason to fire you.
You can also quit for a good reason and still qualify for unemployment.

flywho got it right, above. You don't "have to" give any notice, it is employment-at-will in most states. Slavery was abolished about 145 years ago.

In Pennsylvania you don't have to give notice I don't know about other states.
