Should I re-pot at a certain time of year? How big should the pot be in reference to the size of the plant? Just looking for some care tips. I am new at this, and want the plant to thrive. Thanks!

It may depend on where you are and what the conditions are for planting. My mother replants her orange and lemon trees in the fall; however, she IS placing them directly into a greenhouse right afterwards, instead of the normal method of taking them into the home. She knows the plant will grow equally well (if not better) in the greenhouse in the winter than outside in summer.

Basically, when you transplant, you want the roots to be stimulated enough to grow and react positively to the new environment. You usually trim the edges of the rootball to stimulate the growth. So transplanting in the spring may be best for you. Get a pot large enough for the plant to grow in. If it is almost 4 feet tall, it may need a 2 foot diameter pot, maybe 20" deep. We use large rope-handled plastic buckets for plants of that size, with plenty of holes drilled in the bottom. It seems to work fine and is more versatile -- and certainly easier to carry -- than eartheware crocks. It also costs significantly less. Make sure you fertilize whenyou transplant too.

Replant in early spring and plenty of water to start. Pot size depends on the size that you failed to mention. Typically 1gallon/foot of growth
