Flood her with information. Research may save your butt here.
As to fast growing plants: grass especially rye, corn (presoak and germinate in warm conditions) you'll also need a dicot such as beans....just dry beans from grocery store that you soaked in warm water for several hours and then planted. (warmth speeds germination for corn and beans...not as much for ryegrass) Don't forget Chia........the seeds in the Chia pets.

Info to research: what is the difference between organic and inorganic? In what ionic form do plants take in nitrogen.......nitrates or ammonia? What are the ionic forms of inorganic and organic? Does something have to happen to the nitrogen to get into the proper form? What? Do temperature and moisture have an effect on this conversion? So if the soil is wet and cold what formula would be better. What is better in moderate temperature soil?

What is the concentration of nitrogen in the Miracle Gro verses the fish stinky stuff? Would the nitrogen concentration have more of an effect that wether the nitrogen is organic or inorganic?

Buy two of the same plants that are similar in age and size. Heavily fertilze both and observe the changes. But if the fertilzers are composed of the similar elements then there should be no diffferents theres only been one periodic table the plant doesnt know the difference between inorganic and organic

did you take any pictures of the plant before the squirrell got to it, if you did you can show them instead.

Also use the squirrel in the project by showing which plant he like better the onewith organic fertilizer or the one with out

why don't you just explain it to your teacher. if she's a good teacher she'll understand and maybe extend you an extra week or 2. if she's not ask her how you could have helped the situation without being condesending or anything.
