This is the problem alot of end users are faced with. They acquire an old computer that turns on. The computer however is not usage because of a problem with the Operating System or they do not know the password to logon. The gold mine suddenly turns to aluminum.
In order to bring the computer back to working condition you will need a Windows XP Full Version disk. You will also need the software dirvers for the hardware inside of the computer.
Best thing to do is take the computer to a service center and have them install Windows XP.

You could format the HDD. to do this, you need to go to a command prompt, and run FDISK. However, I do not recommend doing this, if you don't know what you are doing.
If you have the O/S installation disk, try to reinstall the os. If this doesn't work, or you are uncomfortable in doing so, bring it in somewhere (ie. Best Buy, or a computer shop). See if they can get the web cam working for you.

Do a "system recovery"
These instructions, will clean everything off of your hard drive, so you must back up anything that you want to save. I have done this three times, and I got these instructions, from a computer tech. When starting your computer, tap the F-10 key. click on next-yes-and follow the instructions, that come up on your screen. When you are finished, your computer, will look just like it did, when you first bought it.Do these steps, in order, when finished.
1. set up windows firewall
2. windows update (click express)
3. install your anti-virus program (update)
4. install anti-spyware (update)
