1st the printer must be hooked up to the router and you have to enable both file and printer sharing on both computers. After that reboot all devices, both computers and the router starting with the router.

Did you install the Linksys software? If you did and you followed instructions correctly and/or used the Win XP wizard, you should not have any problems.

Also, in order to share your printer using your laptop, the printer must be connected to your PC and must be on. Go to Help and type home networking to get yourself familiarized a little more about networking requirements.

Again, in order to get some beneficial help from this group, you should give more detail information about your actual network set up; how you have things connected to each other. Something like:

Cable to Modem, Modem to Router, etc, etc. If you could give us a complete picture of your set up you would get a complete and workable response. Otherwise we are spending time for nothing by guessing!

Use an ethernet cable (cat5 or better) to connect the desktop to one of the wired ports on the router. Use your wireless adapter for the laptop to connect to the router. Network Neighborhood in Control Panel should show that both PC's are networked together.

Since you don't mention a wireless printer adapter, the printer must be shared off the desktop or laptop. I assume that you know how to mark printers and hard drives as shareable.
