Did Christianity cause the fall of Rome and go on still to become the unifying thread of European civilization. If you can't see the contradiction here get truth glasses.
Gibbon's Volumes deserve a place in history but they are filled not only with history but with bias of the wealthy upper class of his century.
As for Constintine (the 1st associated with Christianity) and neither the end or the beggining of civil war in the Roman empire.

among many historian it was Christianity. Constantine-the emperor of western Rome- went to war with eastern Rome as he thought he saw "a sign from god". then he declared Christianity the national religion of Rome!
