But, what about the other way around? "Those who would give up a little security to gain a little liberty deserve neither and lose both". Now, before you start calling me a fascist pig or something, know this: I am not a fascist, but I do see both liberty and security to be intertwined. In a way, when we lose our liberty, we also lose our security and when we lose our security, we lose our liberty. Do you see this as true or not? If so, why?

Well, if you had all the liberty in the world, and no security, wouldn't you give a little liberty so you had the security to the rest of it?

"Those would give up a little liberty to gain a little security deserve neither and lose both"..

This is just a neat, little saying - and that's all.

You have taken the time to actually analyze it and come away a hell of a lot wiser than someone who would simply take it at face value.

You are absolutely correct - if we are not secure - our liberties will be academic. There are simply too many power hungry psychos in the world who seem to think it's their destiny and birth right to rule the world.

They cannot be ignored while we squabble over the best methods to secure our liberty.

Liberty and security is entwined, yes. But they are very sparingly entwined. You're assuming we're dealing with people dumb to ethics. The statement isn't "the less secure you are, the more free you are", it's stating "if you're willing to give up freedom for a false sense of security, you might as well be giving up freedom for nothing".

I would feel better about my personal security without everybody in local, state and national law enforcement having the right to eaves drop on me and know my whereabouts at all times. Its a well documented fact that some who wear a badge have been known to abuse that power for personal gain. I am not hiding anything but I don't like anyone poking their nose into my personal business.

We have already signed away much of our liberty to total government control. We do not own our houses, and keep very little of our income, most of it goes to taxation.

You get divorced and the government will take control of 60% of your income to support the lifestyle of the mother of your children.

America the free it is not, that concept was forgotten some time ago
