If you have ever taken a tour of a mail processing center you will be amazed at how much mail is handled every day. I believe that almost no mail is lost. Mail is often misdelivered because of poor address, labels that fall off and lack of postage. The post office is blamed for many other people's mistakes.
I often get involved in mailing large quantities of mail for our clients. The post office does a great job.

The chances are slim <5% but I know one of my best pieces of mail (autographed baseball card I sold on Ebay) got lost with UPS. The guy never got the card so I had to refund him his money and I was also out the card.
Now that you've asked, you are jinxed and your chances are HIGH!!! :)

i dont think its that bad ive ordered a few things online an had them go through ground shippping but if you do decide to do that make sure you check on it each day. they give you a tracking number an you log onto the ups site to track it an see where it is an you can see when it gets to your town an stuff. its cheaper but its a bit riskier but just make sure you get your tracking number and track that thing like crazy and if it says its in your town an days go by without getting the pick up form , then something isnt right.

Not very but I would still get insurance, proof of delivery, etc etc if it is something important. It's pretty cheap. I do have mail delayed all the time. It probably depends on where you live too.

Not real big actually. Considering the millions of pieces they have to contend with, its amazing how little is really lost.

It happens sometimes, getting insurance on your package at least gets you your money back. I sell on E-Bay and I have sent thousands of packages and they have only lost 2, pretty good service.
