Goverment School Project Help?

Ok. In my school project I have to tel the diffrence between democracts and republicans. And Conservatives and Liberals.
I know what it is but I don't actualy understand it and the principles behind it.

So I want to ask if anyone could explain why you chose to be a democract/republican
and/or
Conservative/Liberal.

The terms are labels that describe a person's belief system. Democrats are supposedly more liberal in their opinions; Republicans more stringent in social policies, etc.
