Because as humans, we are never satisfied with what we own, even if it was a thought. Even if you think of a great thing or the right thing, he idea you did not think of will always sound better.

Why is it easier to latch on to the negatives? Not easy to answer... Perhaps you've become accustomed to it. Watch 'What the Bleep Do We Know' and there is an interesting bit of science on how emotional states over time actually change receptor sites of neurotransmitters to accomodate a kind of emotion, and you can become ADDICTED to feeling bad or negative.

But guess what.... You are in possession to the key needed. You stated a recognition of the fact that you are generally accepting thoughts rather than generating them. It's work, but you CAN choose your thought patterns and emotional state, and with time and practice, it gets easier to manipulate your own psychology. It does mean though accepting responsibility for your emotional life and not shrugging the blame off to the world around you.

Well, it is because we cannot control what we think about! No matter how hard you try and maybe trick yourself into thinking something else, once you are finished with that thought it will bring you right back to tha one thing you don't want to think about. As confusing as that sounds, it could be true. If you don't want to think about it- whatever is bothering you- try and do things that will occupy your brain to get you off that topic.

Hope it helped :)

Happens to me all the time, I even get flashbacks of embarrassing incidents that happened 7 years ago, but I can't remember the name of the guy I met yesterday.
It's like someone saying "Don't think of a black cat", you're probably going to think of a black cat.

You worry to much.
Or you're not taking care of things so you don't have to worry about them, otherwise trying to control your brain is impossible.
Detatch and watch the thoughts float by like bubbles.
