I have recently installed an HP DVD 640vi burner in a friends computer. I know that the IDE cable, power connector and jumper settings are correct. But for some reason the monitor will not work with this install. It works fine with a CD burner that I took out.
I made sure to install the DVD burner with the same jumer setting that the original CD burner had (master), also the same IDE cable connection and the power connector are all installed correctly. I was wondering if this might be a RAM issue.
The computer only has 256 MB of RAM.
Any help is appreciated.
Thank you.

Yes the monitor is plugged in to the computer correctly and power is connected. The monitor works fine with the original CD burner.

Remove the jumper? It needs a jumper setting and I have tried all three jumper settings.

It's not a RAM issue, but I don't know what it is.

DVD burner has nothing to do with monitor. If anything goes wrong then you should find your dvd burner is not working. Or the machine doesn't start due to incorrect jumper settings.

So, do the following,
* Make sure if the monitor is connected properly to the right place. If you are sure your connectivity is right then move down to the following.
* Remove the jumper from the DVD burner and try to start the pc again.

Is the monitor plugged into the video card/video device?
Is the power cord of the monitor plugged into the wall?

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
