We have optus cable, when we first connected it was really fast, and as the days went by it got slower and slower. We dont download many things at all, and we dont watch many videos, games etc. Someone came over and made the modem ethernet. Does this have anything to do with our internet connection speed? What can I do to make my internet faster? We have cable so it should be 30 times faster then dial up. It is meant to be 1.5G but the other day I downloaded a program that shows your internet connection speed and it showed us that it was only 200MB, when it is really meant to be 1.5G? What is wrong with my computer?

An internet connection can become slow or stop working due to a number of reasons depending on the type of the connection. Many of the problems can be solved by making software changes or small hardware corrections. Detailed instructions at http://tinyurl.com/yl62gz

I think you have the numbers wrong.

Your connection is advertised as 1.5MBits/Second not GB. The program you mentioned returned a number equal to a fraction of that which should have been 200kBits/Second.

The connection speed advertised by the ISP should be that if yo are connected directly into the Cable Modem. Since you have a wired or wireless Ethernet device, the speed and bandwidth may drop off. If you are sharing the connection wiht other computers in your huse, that affects the bandwidth and speed also.

First cable ISPs don't have a constant speed, it wavers depending on the use of your neighbours. Now, the thing you have to do before you do anything else is check what service you signed up for (they very least expensive is usually 128k fastest in my area is 6mgb/s.) now check what you are actually getting if it not close call your provider they are the ones that will make it right for you. That's their job. If anything goes awry with my service whether speed or anything else I call them and get it resolved....they're the experts.

there is no residential internet connection that is 1.5GB/s. Maybe you mean 1.5Mb/s, which is a good speed.

Using PC Pitstops download speed tester I get 2146Kb/s (2.1Mb/s) through my Comcast Cable Modem to my D-Link Wireless router to my laptop via the wireless connection.
