It's about the music business in California and what it does to young musicians. The fact that there are so many references in the song to things that are common in whore houses probably refllects the experience the Eagles had on their road to fame. The whole loss of innocence thing.

The song Hotel Claifornia is talking about a major trip on acid. Good enough they think they see a hotel with a hot chick with lots of pretty boys she calls friends (hint hint) could be a house of ill repute.
