Yes, I am experiencing this a lot now because I'm a student again and have to really watch my expenses. Plus where I am studying there is only one gay bar where everyone knows everyone else (kind of confining) and where the "gay disco" is open only on Sunday nights (I typically have a LOT to do early on Monday morning)... Some years are like this, and you just have to tough it out. One of the other replies above mentions taking advantage of the gay special interest groups that exist in your area. Certainly NYC has scads of these, so don't delay. Get on out there and meet some nice folks!

I just bought groceries for the next 2 weeks and only spent $6. It's possible to afford to go out, but sometimes it isn't easy. Maybe try meeting people at other places than bars and clubs and avoid restaurants entirely.

I don't know about NYC, but Denver has dozens of lesbian and gay social groups. You can be in a jeep club, or a bicyclist or a Sierra Club member or in a book club - the list goes on and on. Heck, I have a friend who is in a nude square dancing group !Another way to meet people is through the MCC church - even if you're not religious they have all kinds of social events and opportunities to volunteer, which is another way to meet people. Visit your local gay and lesbian community center and good luck. It is a drag not having money, but it's not all all essential to have money to have fun.

Simple, byob first second, save up money even if it takes a month to go out and go to places you know you will meet people. If your not sure where just look it up on the internet. You can find hot places to meet other gays that way.

You are right, New York is very expensive. Unless you can move to Miami, Florida -- like many other New Yorkers -- I do not really know what to suggest you.
