I think so. If they are really aggressive they will start attacking anything and anyone that's around them. And if they are running free, there's the risk that they will come onto other peoples property, and attack the residents. Someone could be out mowing the lawn, or a little kid out jumping rope, and they could be seriously injured or killed by those animals. If the authorities won't take care of the problem, you have to protect yourself and others around you.

First get a video camera and tape it, all the activity of those dogs running free, then go to the media, and show them your life could be in danger and the law enforcement is not doing a thing to help you. Then get yourself a weapon suggested by a member of the National Rifle Association they are the experts to advice on weaponry, license the weapon and use it only in self-defense. You have the right to bear arms. Now you could call the animal lovers associations and see what they will do about it, because they may think that the owner is bad because they are not training their animals correct, you know like some parents and the kids that act like animals and do driveby shootings? Out of control, the Department of child services helps there only sometimes? So good luck with the animal lovers too? They may take up for the animals?

You should call the cops and have them come to your house, together you should go to the owners house and make an official complaint. Have the cop write out a report and get a copy. That way if you have to shoot the dogs then you won't get punished for it. But you still can not act in a cruel manner. Remember the dogs are dogs, it's their owner's fault. My neighbor's dog kept coming over and getting after my chickens so I crossed the crop behind us and visited them and told them. I gave them fair warning, I was as nice as a person could be about it. I got out my pellet rifle and I would shoot at her every time I seen her. I even did it in front of them and they finally started chaining their dog up. I see them jogging with her now on a leash. Sometimes I see her loose in the field and I will shoot at a tree. She'll run home. Then I won't see her for a long time. I never shoot at any dog with the intent to injure. Just to sting. Now all they have to do is see it or hear it. The situation you are describing seems more dangerous so you may need the cops and a real gun. But, don't be cruel about it.

Perhaps if they truly pose a threat to your safety, but first you should take all other measures, such as trying to see if there is a way for you to avoid the dogs period. And make sure you know what the consequences would be by law, should you be caught and is it worth it.Good luck.

The key to the question is that you claim they pose a threat. If you can kill a human in self-defense then you can certainly kill a dog. If the threat is imagined, then you might have a problem.

A civil lawsuit is the best answer (as noted by Dee above). Just because the authorities in your area (city, county, etc.) cannot help you through the criminal process does not mean that you don't have a strong civil case.

Sue the owner because it is "murder" and the owner is fully responsible. You can have the dogs taken away by police and could possibly have the dogs put to rest.

Contact your local dog pound and have the dogs picked up. The owner will have to pay a fair amount of money to have them returned. If you are attacked, sue the sob without mercy.

Yes you are protecting you animals and family and if the person can't control his animal then something should be done about that animal before it does even more damage.
