Pretend you're the x. If you're in front of him and facing the same direction, he's 6 and 3 oclock is at right, like a clock. It's the same for him, too.

If you're asking whether it's his or yours, though, you probably werent' facing the same direction, but rather each other. In that case, he's probably referring to his 3. IE your left.

if your are facing the same way then it is his right as well as yours

but if you are facing each other then it is still his right and your left (or your 9 o'clock)
