but they actaully have the operation....when a guy becomes a girl - do they like males or females? has any one ever heard of a gay tranvestite - a guy who becomes a girl but who still likes males...oh im confusing myself now

As others have pointed out, it's not transvestite, but transsexual.

And yes, transsexuals, just like you and I, can be absolutely any sexual orientation! Gay, straight, lesbian, bisexual, polysexual, omnisexual, asexual, whatever.

There are men who transition to female and like men, making them straight transwomen (see Christine Jorgesen). There are men who transition to female and like women, making them lesbian transwomen (see Kate Bornstein). There are women who transition to men and like women, making them straight transmen (see Dhillon Khosla, Max Wolf Valerio), and there are women who transition to men and like men, making them gay transmen (see Matt Kailey, Lou Sullivan). And then there are many who are bisexual or somewhere in between.

It used to be thought that all transsexuals liked the 'same sex' (pre-transition)- i.e. if a man liked women, there was no way he could ever want to be a woman, too. I mean, why would he? He likes women! But we've since learned that gender identity and sexual orientation are two different things. It's been a tough struggle to get sex changes if you identified as heterosexual pre-transition- a key factor in determining whether you could was if you were gay/lesbian (pre-transition). One of my biggest heroes, Lou Sullivan, fought very hard to become a gay transman and open up the avenues for others, showing that there's no universal way for a transsexual to be- we like all sorts of different things!

Transvestites do not have sex changes. They dress as the opposite sex to attact the same sex they are. They dont change to gay by dressing as the other sex, they are gay, and like to dress as the opposite sex. But they dont "live" this way. They dress as the opposite sex for fun, then go back to their normal attire for the sex they "are".

What you are describing is transgendering. This is when a man lives his life as a woman, or a woman as a man, in actions, dress, communication, etc. They still have their same old sex organs, but they live completely as if they are the other sex.

Sometimes they have operations to change their sexual organs, and that is called a transexual. It is a complete and physical change, usually with homone injections.

In all these cases the subject, the person, is still considered to be gay, or homosexual. The closest they would become to "not" being homosexual is by having the sex change, which you now know is called a "transexual".

gay meaning males that like males, and lesbian meaning females like female. Now with that said, if a male 2 female post op TS likes females still then she is now lesbian, when she was pre op, and she liked women she was strait do to the fact that she still has a penis and balls still, vice versa with female to male TS. I have gotten into a huge fight with a transsexual friend of mine about this subject and to put more insight into this issue, therapist will tell you that if your a male 2 female TS and like men your gay, but your hetero in the head, it all boils down to the sexual organs of the transsexual

Being transgendered has nothing to do with wither you are gay or not. Someone who goes though a sex change operation does so because they feel they are born the wrong sex. They can be interested in either men or women and having sex reassignment doesn't change their sexual interests.
By the way; just to let you know; transsexuals go through sex changes; transvestites just enjoy dressing like the opposite sex.

Ok, so previous answers seem to be correct (well, some of them)... that yes, a transgender person can be gay/bi/straight/whatever because sexuality and gender are two separate entities.

That being said, yes, i know SEVERAL ftm transguys who are gay, and date other men, both ftm men and biological men.

i am a per op m2f transsexual my self and
i am really bisexual or moree asexual
i have no real desire to be with girls or guys at the moment
many transgender people question what they really want in a partner
and waste a lot of time on it
love has no bounderies age race gender or disability
there for you will find love where ever is in you
there is no hand book on life and relationships
as every one is different

being transgender means you are fighting a battle with in ones self for ones true identerty
part of that is about fitting in with society
well society does not have gidelines from transgenders
we seem to make our own rules up as we go
my rule is very simple be your self everyone else is taking
live your life your way ,as it is your life no one elses

tranvestites like wearing the opposite sex clothes but do not get surgery. those who get surgery are transsexual.

gender identity is who you identify as male or female or other

sex identity is most commonly known as physical sex you belong to

sex orientation is who you are attracted to

gender identity and sex orientation does not mean the same thing.

those who are transsexual like i am can be "straight" or "gay" or "bi" or asexual like everybody else.

You can have transexuals Male to Female who like males or some are "lesbian". You can have Female to Male transexuals who like women or guys in which case they would be "gay". There are also transexuals who like both and they would be "bisexual".

Most transexual men who actually have gender re-assignment have it because they feel that they are women trapped in a man's body. So they usually like men- not because they are gay men, but because they are straight women. Hope that clears up your confusion.
