After seeing it in Portland this year I have to go with Wicked as well. When Shoshonna Bean (The Broadway Elphaba who is from Portland) did Defy Gravity it gave me chills. Now a quality Jean ValJean doing Bring Him Home can be equally satisfying.

NOT Highschool Musical. I don't have anything against the movie, but it should NEVER be compared with real musicals. It's just a little peice of Disney... fluff.
That being said, I ADORE Phantom of the Opera. My favorite song is "Music of the Night". It is a simply beautiful peice.
I also love Willy Wonka and the Chococolate Factory, if that counts as a musical. I love both "Pure Imagination" and "I Want it Now". "Pure Imagination" is a very whimsical and beautiful peice, and "I Want it Now" is just plain fun.
Last but not least, I can't leave out a childhood favorite: The Wizard of Oz. "Over the Rainbow" and "If I Only Had a Brain" are tied as my favorites.
