At my bank, a savings account has a minimum balance of $100. Otherwise, you are charged a monthly fee. Check with your bank. For a higher interest rate, you may be required to have a higher minimum balance.

depends on who you bank with. emmigrant and ing have a 1$ min. balance. it can even be zero, but then it wouldn't be a savings account, but a checking account :)

as far as i know it depends on bank, my personal situation is that i have a balance of zero,zip, nada, zinch.0. and it's safe.lol
