Feeding Question?
My daughter is almost 5 months old and i have been given the ok to start her on stage 1 baby food well since I have started her on it all she wants is cereal and veggies, she doesn't want her bottle anymore during the day, I have also been giving her diluted juice. She drinks 3-6oz bottles at night. Is this ok and has anyone else had this problem. (It just seems like she wants to eat like we do

She has 4tbls of cereal for breakfast mixed with juice, veggies for lunch and cereal again mixed with formula for dinner.

After feeding her the baby foods she is usually still hungry but I don't feed her anything else hoping she will drink formula.

Not to worry. My son, when we started him on more advanced foods would eat at the table with us and he felt he had become a "big" boy. I often gave him drinks out of a glass off and on all day long and would put him to bed at night with his bottle. He only had his bottle at night. During the day he drank and ate like a big boy. Sounds like your daughter has taken her first step to becoming a big girl. You will also find, in a few months, that she will no longer require her bottle at night.

WAY TOO MUCH JUICE!! She'll end up with diarrhea, and she won't have an appetite for much else.

5 months is kind of young for solids, If shes having them at all, she should only be eating a tablespoon at a time. Also, you should only give her one new food every 4-5 days to watch for allergies.

Solid food at this age is only to teach the baby how to eat solids. Their nourishment is still coming from the milk.

I'd cut the juice completely. Formula has all the vitamins and minerals she needs to grow up healthy right now. Only give the diluted juice if she starts getting constipated.

Try adding a small amount of rice cereal to the milk. It is probably the consistency that is the problem.

Do not feed her 'table food' or the food that you are eating since her little system is not ready for these types of foods and seasonings.

Also, it could be the taste. Different formulas have different tastes, subtle though this may be. She may prefer a different formula. Soy milk is also an option. Either way, discuss it with your pediatrician.

I agree with musicmom

Back off on the baby food, and also especially on the juice - that's empty calories. Always give the bottle first, before you even get out the baby food. They fill up on what's given first. I had the same problem with my son, he'd eat so much food he wouldn't take the breastmilk. I backed off on food and offered the breast first. expect a day of tantrums or a strike- but she will take the bottle when she gets hungry enough. also could try giving the formula in a sippy cup.

First thing would be to cut the juice, it provides nothing from a nutritional standpoint, some would say "empty calories".
Remember there is no rush to solid foods, most calories for a baby this age should be coming from formula/breast milk. You may want to pull back with the fruits, especially, as these are sweeter and babies will prefer them (just like juice) to milk and veggies.
Another thing to remember is that as long there is no changes in your child's urine output, she is getting enough to drink (approx 32 oz/day)

"It may help to give him some breast milk or formula, then try cereal and finish with more breast milk or formula." "Almost all of the baby's nourishment still comes from breast milk or formula. A baby should drink either breast milk or iron-fortified formula -- not cow's milk -- until he is a year old"

Stop giving her so many bottles at night because that is what is filling her up and she is probably peeing like crazy with all those liquids. Give her cereal and veggies if that is what she wants, but give her fruits as well, and like the prev posts said, try Stage 2 as well.

Feed the formula in a sippy cup during meals...ask your pediatrician what they recommend for daily intake of formula for her age. Forgo the juice in lieu of the formula...formula first..then juice.

You can also mix formula into the cereal.

OKK. Well when i was little i did that. Only with medicine. I refused so at night my mom would take my juice and poor the medicine in the juice and shake it up good. accept one to i got bronchitis, i had to get a medicine with little granulates in the medicine, that stuff tasted like crap! (pardon my language) so my grandma put it into a smoothie maker to smooth it out and then put it in. You could just put some formula in it. And shake it up good.

maybe try watering down her faveorite food with formula, and feeding it to her with a bottle... the flavor is there but also the nutrients too. It's worth a try right? Good luck.

How much are you feeding her? If she getting too much food she probably won't want formula. You are supposed to start them off at 1 jar a day.
