Depends entirely on what you want to do with the system ...
The Core 2 duo is the faster processor but theres little that can benefit from the power ....
Pentium D if you're into encoding either music or video and up your ram
Athlon 64x2 if you're gonna game ... though you'd have to up your graphics card and ram

The Core 2 Duo is the most powerful type of processor on the market right now, and has good price/performance ratio. Out of the four options, I would pick that one. It's a quantum leap forward from all of Intel's other processors. They used to be inferior to AMD's, but that is no longer the case. The Core 2 Duo is definitely the best.

I personally have been more along the AMD line, since i've had far less problems with them and for what I use a computer for (I.e. some gaming and the such) I found the AMD line to always be a little bit higher quality and also cheaper in price then the Intel line but that's just my two cents.

Get the Intel Dual core. It's the better performing processor compared to the rest.

the intel duo core two chips are much faster then the athlon chips id go with the second option but both are good computers if you are planning on buying either of these id wait a couple weeks until windows vista comes out unless you have a free upgrade with your purchase
