Because Of This, Back Pains Are Very Common During Pregnancy. It is not normal, nor is it rare. Please call your doctor asap, he will want to see you. There are a few reasons you could be in that much pain. Sciatic nerve being pushed on, spreading pelvic joints from the natural hormones make it extremely easy to injure yourself, this includes all of the joints in your body. A certain level of discomfort is to be expected, but at 22 weeks it should not be so bad for you. Ask your doctor if he can recommend some safe stretching, or a referral to a yoga class for pregnancy, water activity, hot water bottle, and you may want to consider the age and support of your mattress. And if you are working or just walking around, a slight heel on your shoe may help alleviate the pain. Try not to walk barefoot on hard floors so much, as your heels are directly impacting your back, and handling more weight than usual. You also need to start really paying attention to your body, and when your legs are tired, sit or lay down and elevate your feet.
The maternity belt is good support, not too tight...and I saw a Reiki master after my son's birth that got rid of my pain in one session. It is good even during, because it does not involve manipulation. Just let them know before you make an appointment that you are pregnant, and check their references as you would any type of healer. Good luck, you are supposed to be in the best stage of it right now. I'm sorry you are in pain, see your doctor please.

The pain could be from the pressure from the baby. Otherwise it could be your joints becoming lax around your sacro-iliac joint. When you are pregnant you produce the hormone relaxin, that causes joint to become looser to assist with delivery. Unfortunately it can cause dysfunction in other joints at the same time. SI pain is very common among pregnant women. You can talk to your Dr. about physical therapy. They will do treatments that can help, such as massage and light exercises to stabilize the area. They may also order you some type of SI stabilizing belt to wear.

Get on your hands and knees and lower your head and chest to the floor, resting your forearms on the floor. stay like that for two or three minutes unless it makes the pain worse. this should shift your baby and relieve the pressure. If that doesn't work, call your doctor, or the hospital's main number and ask for the ob/gyn who's on-call. Never ignore pain during pregnancy, and never be afraid to "bother" the doctors with your call. also, trust your instincts. If your doc says it's nothing, but you feel it's something, go to the ER for observation. I called the on-call doc when i started itching like crazy at 34 1/2 weeks and he pooh-poohed it. I went into labor w/in 24 hours and my son was born prematurely. Not saying this to scare you, just saying to trust your instincts! if it were me, i'd be on my way to the ER right now just as a precaution.

I was going through that too. It's actually pretty common. Have you tried using a maternity belt? You can buy one at any maternity store. I've found that it's really helpful and relieves back-pain. It takes the pressure away from all the weight that you're distributing in the front.
Good luck!

I have the same thing and I am 20 weeks along. I thought it was just because this is my fourth. What baby are you on? I would talk to your doctor to make sure it is OK. I am going to. Good luck

It sounds like you have sciatica, it is usually an inflammation of the sciatic nerve, it can be quite debilitating.
