If it's a very expensive purchase, I'd make sure that phone number you have of his is legit and still working.

If it's being mailed, INSIST on a tracking number for the item, insurance for the full value, and the date the item is shipped.

Definitely use a credit card with paypal. You can always contact your credit card company and let them know if you get scammed. They'll do a chargeback and refund your money. Paypal will also freeze their account and if they have money in the account they may send that back to you instead of you having to do a chargeback with the credit card.

You're fairly well protected, but it never hurts to be cautious with online buying.

Are you buying directly from them or from a site? From ebay store or something like that? I have bought several things on ebay with no problems, have also sold with no problems. Honestly if it is very expensive and it seems like a scam I would look for something closer to home. Also make sure if you do have paypal linked to a credit card they offer buyer protection not all credit cards do.

If you are using paypal be sure to use a credit card, not your bank account. Using a credit card will give you double protection if something goes wrong with the transaction.
