I pay $45 a month for my dsl in my home when only about 100 feet away is a coffee shop that has free wireless internet. Can anyone tell me if I can reach it with a pci adapter? This internet is costing me an arm and a leg... My husband says that one guy in the military said he could get a reception up to a mile and a half away. What is the best system to buy? Thanks so much for your imput.

Just to add, I like in one of those rare locations that other cheaper internet services are not available, because I would have to pay long distance fees due to this location. Earthlink, pcpeople, what ever checked them all. The only one I can get that is the cheapest I can get is through my phone company. And I wouldn't touch aol with a ten foot pole.

There's no such thing as a "PCI Wireless Internet Booster". What you need is a Wireless NIC. That just might work if you're within 100 feet.

You'd only get 1.5 miles with directional antennas on both ends -- yagi or parabolic dish.

you should be able to install a wireless PCI card or a USB Adapter and receive a signal from 100 feet away. But just for your info, most hotspots keep an eye on connection times, and if they see a connection that is connected alot, especially not during business hours, they usually put a MAC filter in thier router banning your computer from accessing thier router.

If we are speaking 802.11g, then it quite is: one hundred twenty five ft / 38 meters If we are speaking 802.11n, then it quite is: 230 ft / 70 meters of direction something interior the way (ex: partitions) and how plenty metallic there is around lowers the area. generally speaking, routers & boosters with twin antennas are greater beneficial than those with one antenna.
