It is really "The Dakota" on Central Park West, where John Lennon lived. But only the exteriors (and the central courtyard) were used in the film.
The interiors were shot in Hollywood on a soundstage. Dakota residents complained that the sets shown in the movie were not as fancy as the real interiors (there is marble in the Dakota bathrooms, for example, and tile is shown in the movie bathroom).

If the film was made in NY, chances are it was a real apartment in Manhattan. If such apartments still exist today the rent would probably be abour $5000 a month!

The outside was the Dakota.I'm not sure about the inside though,cause the Dakota is prettier.But that was shot back in the 60's,so I don't know what it looked like back then.

I wouldn't know exactly, I haven't seen it, but I think it's a stage setting. Do a little research.
