Yes you do. The shredding of paper generates paper dust which tends to absorb the oil that lubricates the shredder. If the Owner's Manual says to oil the machine, you need to follow the directions or the warranty may be voided.

YOU SHOULD ....SPRAY IT ABOUT ONCE A MONTH WITH JUST A MIST OF W-D 40 PAPER DUST WILL GET INTO THE CUTTERS AND BIND THEM UP IF YOU DONT ...THIS WILL EXTEND THE LIFE OF YOUR SHEDDER BY AT LEAST HALF

well yes but do not spray it while it is on, I had one ignite and blow fire over my hand. It was a very bad burn
