my parents went off to the beach for a just over a week and left my brother and I home. we were 18&16 at the time.

let me also say that when they got home the house was BETTER than they left it. we did not have any partys, and we did not do any thing that would have made our parents not trust us. in fact they trusted us enough that they let us run to the mountians the next week. we went to summer camp.

Well First I Would Have To Say They Would Have To Be Very Responsible.Next They Would Probely Have To Be Around The Ages Of 14 Or Older.Counts On How Yr Parents Trust You If You Want To Do That.

I've stayed home alone as young as 13 or so. But not for an entire weekend, more like just 1 day.

It depends on the parent's ability to trust their teenager (and the teen's ability to be trusted). I really can't imagine leaving my 13 y/o old at home for a weekend until she is 18.

Depends on:
#1- State law
#2- Their responsibility and accountability level.
If they can't handle an emergency situation when you are there they certainly can't if you are not there. You must also have a STRONG trust level that they will follow the house rules explicitely. You do not want to come home to a houseful of cops or party.

Not my kids. Too much bad stuff can happen to them, and I'm not talking about trouble they can get themselves into. My kids are also eight years apart, so the youngest will go to a friend or relative's and the oldest can go to one of HIS friends' houses.

No teenager, under the age of eighteen, needs to be left alone for a weekend without supervision.

Leaving a teen - ANY teen, even a really responsible one - home for the weekend is asking for trouble. I'd have a neighbor check in at random intervals if I did decide to leave a teen alone that long.

I suppose there's a certain level of maturity they have to achieve first. If they seem too overly eager to get you out of the house and occupy it alone; most likely, I'd say ... no.

However, you are very sure that they can fend for themselves a short while and not cause any trouble, I suppose it's fine.

But only if you're really sure.
