A Navajo Code Talker was a Dinè, aka Navajo, used during WW2 to transmit messages using a secret code. Messages were relayed between two Code Talkers who would encrypt and decipher messages. Also, they were from the southwest region of the United States.

As of September 2, 2006; there are five Navajo Code Talkers still alive today. I'm not sure if any have died since then.

"They are John Brown, Jr., of Navajo, New Mexico; Chester Nez of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Allen Dale June of West Valley City, Utah; Lloyd Oliver of Phoenix, Arizona; and Joe Palmer of
Yuma, Arizona."

On a side note, it's important to point out that the Navajo language was not the only Native American language used during WW2. Hopi, Sioux, Cherokee and several other languages were also used. Several of whom even served in the European Theatre. If you can find the bill which was passed in 2000 or 2001, it lists all the tribes that were used.

Navajo's are nomads, and there are enough, but their specific language was not used as the codes, it was the Pueblo Native language. Pueblo's contribution to WWII was very important, and yes there are some left. As far as gold medalists, in what country? And if you are talking about Jim Thorpe the native he had all his medals revoked because he worked for food and housing on a ball team and the prejudice Olympic judges wanted him out so they cooked up that excuse to take them away. They considered him a professional status, which was wrong. He was a great athlete and took home loads of medals for America, and yet the Anglo/Saxon/Wasp would rather see their homelands in Europe win than a heathen redskin. White, white, white, was the slogan then and yet they recently a few years back gave his medals back, (he was dead) but they gave him to his daughter. Wasnt that white of them? But of course today it is different Jesse Owens won the Gold in Germany right in front of Hitler and did that piss him off. You Betcha. Yeah team. It has taken years for people to learn about the native americans and still they know nothing.
