There is mounting evidence which indicates that the reason for some people having the need to crossdress comes from what is sometimes referred to as the "Hormone Wash Theory". Very basically the developing embryo receives a massive "wash" of hormones from it's mother in a narrow 12 hour window at the end of the first trimester of pregnancy. It is at this point in time when some researchers believe that some of the characteristics of a typical heterosexual crossdresser are 'planted'. Straight men who crossdress are known to have an appreciation and admiration for women that is far above that of the typical male. This admiration is one of the factors that makes many men want to impersonate the object of their admiration. You might think of it as a sort of play acting like one may have done as a child when emulating one of the personalities seen on television. You knew you weren't superman or batman or any of hundreds of other well known figures or 'super-heros', but for a little while it was fun to pretend that you were. Crossdressing is very similar in the respect that straight men don't actually want to BE women, but rather to expereince what they believe it might feel like for short periods of time. Another reason is that the texture and feel of feminine clothing is quite different from that of the usual male attire. Also the softer fablics and wide assortment of colors and styles available to women is an attraction.
Oddly enough most crossdressers are STRAIGHT men and contrary to popular belief, gay men are rarely crossdressers. This is logical since gay men are attracted to other gay men - NOT to women. With this in mind it doesn't make sense that a gay man would crossdress for the purpose of attracting another gay man.

Noone really knows what compells a crossdresser to crossdress, but many of them will tell you that they had the urge frome a very early age. Probably some sort of hormonal imbalance during pregnancy, or some other time during their life. However like a drug, once you start it is almost impossibel to stop, although through guilt and shame many try to stop, only to return to it again. Once a crossdresser accepts that this lovely gift is a part of his life, why would they want to stop. Don't knock it until you tried it.

A person crossdresses when they discover the other "opposite gender force" which lives within each one of us. This is one way to express that particular, otherwise hidden, gender. Many women cross dress much of the time. Picture it, jeans, sneakers, a tee shirt, and perhaps a baseball cap. It was not long ago that a woman would not be caught dead in that outfit as it was viewed as strictly for a boy, or a man to wear. Women have found the "male" within, and they have no problem expressing him.........boldly even. Today's society is much more open in many respects and permits women to dress any way they want. And now, finally, men are also beginning to do the same. Male crossdressers sometimes appear "bold" in their manner of dress since they too are expressing something from within. Just think of how much "gumption" it must take for a man to do this. Talk about having balls! Phew!

No, its just fun for some people. Its just like colors. Some people like blue, others like pink, others like green, purple etc.. Thats just the way it is. It doesnt mean the person is gay or anything of that sort. Its just what they like. Everyone is different. Remember long time ago when women didn't wear pants? Well, its the same thing. They do now, because they're comfortable, and they like them. There really isnt that big of a difference between women's and men's clothing, its just clothes for gods sake! Just pieces of cloth to keep us warm. And when you think about it: Why is it that women initialy wore dresses and men didn't? Whats the difference? Yeah, it probably looks better on women than on most men, but society is going too far with all the discrimination.
It all comes down to what's "socially acceptable". Why should one limit himself/herself to only so many possibilities just because other people don't agree with that certain idea(and honestly i dont know why)?
P.s. I am not a crossdresser, but i have nothing against people who are. Its their decision.

Likely hormonal, but probably more for fun, I don't really know personally. I do know that these individuals are highly creative and this is perhaps a way they express themselves..like any other art form.
