I have had good luck with using Equine.com
They cover a large area for buying and selling, or can narrow down searches for local areas.

also try going to some horse shows and talking to people there ... you may want to try open horse shows or 4-h those that dont have any horses for sale will no doubt know who will have one that fits your needs but no matter which way you chose to find a new horse make sure to have it vet checked by YOUR vet, make sure you ride it several times and its also a good idea when going to see the horse to ride or otherwise to do so either on VERY short notice or just stop in with no notice at all (sounds rude i know ), the reason thats a good idea however is so you get a chance to see how the horse is kept normally and get to ride him knowing he is natural, not been ridden to death and not drugged. If the people at the barn dont know you're comming they wont scramble to prepare for your arival and you will get to see the norm at that barn and the real horse so to speak, not the way THEY want you to see thier barn,

Hi Nicole, I found my horse online, the main thing is to ask for references if you have doubts, don't give out important info online, and to ride your horse at least three times before buying, at least once with a trainer you work with, and I strongly suggest a lease or trial period of a month or so. Don't make the mistake I did, be hard nosed and don't fall in love with the first horse that comes around. Tell your trainer to be completely honest and not think of your current feelings. Otherwise, these are good site: http://www.equine.com , http://www.equinehits.com , http://agdirect.com , http://www.netequine.com , http://www.horsetopia.com , http://www.dreamhorse.com . I think I got all those right? Hope you get a nice horse!

It relies upon on what you pick the pony for. (path driving? western excitement? dressage? leaping? reducing? reining?) How plenty horse adventure do you have? (beginner? have taken a great number of driving training? have you ever ridden eco-friendly broke horses?) seem for: TEMPERMENT: a horse it is for sure calm yet prepared practise: a horse it is a minimum of 10 years of age and has been ridden plenty (properly) for what you pick. the less adventure you have with eco-friendly horses, the extra practise you pick your horse to have. affirmation: how is the pony prepare? short backs are extra useful than long backs for the main section, the way the pony is provided will inform you if he's stable for what you pick....there is extremely some issues for leaping than for reining, or for merely path driving... AGE: get a horse a minimum of 10 or around that age. a been there completed that type. BREED: any. it is pertaining to to the above that i've got reported that counts, no longer the breed (till you want to specifically do specific disciplines) Get a Gelding: mares would be great, yet they are in a position to even have undesirable cycles and while they bypass in warmth, they are in a position to be very cranky, or in discomfort or .... Geldings are not hormonal, they're much less complicated to shield for the main section.

Try this website, sometimes you can find horses for FREE, they just have owners with no room, etc. My in-laws have purchased several horses through this site, and they just rave about it.
www.craigslist.org - It will default to San Francisco , CA just put in your zip and it will go to your area.......GOOD LUCK
