when you talk to them in a serious way not being disrespectful...

Probably about the same as asking Americans about being slave owners (most WW II people are over 80 yrs old , so to whom are you talking ?)
Any conversation depends on attitude and if anyone is getting pushy about questions they are tired of talking about .

I lived in Germany for 3 years and it didn't bother the people that I knew. I know there are some, particularly older people who still hate Americans. I was even amazed to hear a couple profoundly antisemitic jokes!

well, it's not something they're proud of... like if a foreigner were to ask a white American about lynching back in the old days... it might be a little uncomfortable. They might be offended because many of them weren't apart of it, it was a different generation that took part in that.

I'm of German descent, but my family wee are here before that & some of my relatives fought on the US side. I'm just tired of hearing about the Holocost when my family had nothing to do with it, just as I'm tired of hearing about slavery when no one in my family has ever owned slaves.

it depends on who your talking to. say if your talking to a war veteran he might get offended because he dosn't want to be reminded of the war. but if you talk to someone else it depends on their point of view, if they support or dislike fascism and the nazis.
