For young nicholas c. It just so happens that when a pitcher leads the league in wins, k's, and era it's called a triple crown in pitching. On to grow on. Go ask daddy.

If Johan was the measuring stick, I would give Zito around 5 mil a year, but I think Zito's huge contract is going to make Santana well over 20 mil a year in a few years. I hope the Twins can lock him up to an extension before he hits the open market or the bidding could become ridiculous.

Obviously Santana is a better pitcher than Zito but the real credit goes to the Twins management. They were smart enough to lock him up with a long term deal and buy some of his potential free agent years. Of course all ballplayers are overpaid but who can blame Zito for signing the contract? He only got what someone was willing to offer and obviously the Giants felt he was worth that to them and they could afford the deal. The money is there, would fans feel better if the owners just put the money in their own pockets and not go out and try to get the best available players (Zito isnt Santana but he was the best available).Santana will get his money when the time comes, i would love to be his agent. The next ARod dollars deal will likely be signed by Santana (7 years at between 20 and 25 million each). So to the Twins fans...you have an incredible front office, they own the biggest bargain in baseball at the moment. Sadly that will change and Johan will be winning CY Youngs in a city with more revenue.

Yeah, Johan is easily the cream of the crop when it comes to pitchers in today's game.

If that's his salary an overrated pitcher like Zito should be making at best $5 million, much of that based on the fact he is left-handed and has proven his durability.

Unfotruantely, I don't think the Twins are going to be able to afford to keep Johan around long-term. He is too good to settle for what the Twins will offer (which probably won't be much--they might even realize they can't keep him and not offer anything) and he'll probably land somewhere for dollars in the $20 million plus a year category. I think the type of contract Carlos Zambrano gets next offseason or what type of extension he garners this season will be a big factor.

Well a lot less I'll tell you that. It seems as though teams are just throwing money at players at a higher rate than usual this year. Johan is the best pitcher in the league and has been dominate over the past few years. I really think he wants to be in Minnesota or else he would have gone looking for more money which he still might do when he becomes a free agent.

Barry Zito
1 Cy Young
16 wins, 3.83 ERA
I would pay him around half of what Santana gets, because he is a good pitcher, but does not dominate like Santana can. He walks a lot of hitters(99) without striking out enough to compensate for that lack of control. Zito is one of the most overrated pitchers in baseball. Only someone like Santana deserved to get a contract that big.

I'm more curious to see if Johan will become the first $20 million per year pitcher when he hits the market.

One-Fifth as much because Zito is One-Fifth of a Pitcher compared to Santana.

Johan should have gotten more, his agent should be fired. He should have Zito's contract and Barry should be getting around 12 million a year.

Prolly about half. Zito isn't a superstar. He had one great year and now that everyone has figured out his curve, he is nothing special. Good move going to the national league though puss. The NL west at that, what a wuss.

Supply and demand, there was a lot of demand and little supply. If Johan had come onto the market this offseason im sure a contract record would have been broken
