1) The fact that you're reading anything is better than not reading at all, even if it's comic books.
2) If you're reading authentic manga (not American), it does give you a vague, if somewhat distorted idea of the culture in Japan, so you're broadening your horizons.
3) It probably neither helps nor hurts your education, except in that it's expensive, so it's probably cutting into the money you should spend on your school supplies. That's the only bad thing I can see. Please keep reading!

unless your history or english or even science class is doing somthing on a famous person /character/ invention that can be found in real life and there some acurate real life connection's in the anime of a past era ETC. It can. but if it's not. No it can't it's a fine line really. Just that simple. it just a creative way to get kids interested more in certain subject's with out them thinking of it as work or boring. The marvel comic's of thor was used to caertain in high school english cause of how he talked. which got caertain student's interrested into look up the actual stuff in real books. this was shown in the show the anti- gravity Room on the sci-fi channel. inthe late 90's to 2000's

the more comic's, anime, and manga help's kid's to get interested in educational thing's through fun
the better it is overall. it's like how video game's like the nintendo wii are getting more people to excersie more with out them realising it. Cause it's so fun. there's nothing with that. if it's done right that is. thaink about that.

Manga is no subsitute for a real book, but that doesn't mean it holds no educational value at all. Of course, it depends on what you're reading.

For educational purposes, I wouldn't be looking at Dragon Ball or something like that, I'd look at at FullMetal Alchemist because it's quite philisophical. I would turn to something like Yu-Gi-Oh if I were trying to learn about story-telling, I'd pick up Death Note.

It all depends on what you're trying to do! Learn, have fun, bore yourself to death, or do the first two simultaneously!!!

I think it is always important to make the best choice available to you in order to gain the most knowledge possible within your time constraints...so, you may possibly gain some small benefit from the comic books, but investing the same amount of time with a higher quality of literature would bring you a greater benefit without a markedly greater expense of time or effort.

Were you looking for validation of your reading material choice, or advice?

Best wishes,
cryllie

I guess it's better than reading nothing at all (though not by much)... and if ur an artist, then looking at the pictures helps u improve. Other than that, manga/comics don't do very much...

It helps because you can gain a very basic knowledge of Japanese as you read, and you can learn about the different styles used to draw manga.

I read alot of manga, and it really doesn't do anything for me. Anything that helps you read better is a good thing.

Every form of entertainment is capable of educating you in some ways, but is it the education you need and/or want?
