"So What" by Miles Davis has an integral bass part. As far as bass guitar is concerned check out melody playing in "Birdland" by Weather Report. "Westchester Lady" by Fourplay has the best double bass use in funk I've ever heard. It's off the chain with its solid groove. For bass solos, there's nothing like Victor Wooten's funky "Amazing Grace" decked out in harmonics accompanied by the best thumbwork in the world hammering out the low part at the same time.

I accidently had sex with a duck.

This album has some really amazing bass playing. I've never heard the bass played in this way before-http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:igjc7i58g71r

Try any John Coltrane with Jimmy Garrison on bass. 1961-1964). A Love Supreme is a good album to start with.-http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&token=&sql=10:u8ue4j171wau

Charles Mingus is amazing and always had great musicians playing their best, like Eric Dolphy.-http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:1fq6g4kbtvoz

I originally wanted to hear this album for the two sax players, however, I found myself listening to the bass a lot of the time. Ron Carter always plays creatively and compliments the soloists.-http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:hv6gtralkl3x

Jaco had outragious skills. He played in a band called Weather Report. He also had his own band. Here's a good live recording where he really shows his skills. If you are looking for a recording that's all about bass technique and dexterity, you should get this one first.-http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:utamqj4yojja

I saw this band play in NYC. The whole band ws amazing. The bass player was the best I've ever seen live (maybe). This is a really great album too.-http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:yudsyl14xp9b

I hope you try any one of these. they ae all different style bass players. Happy listening

Razor Blade by Jon Faddis. It doesn't feature the bass but it is still very good.

Instead of giving you songs, I'd recommend checking out any Medeski, Martin, and Wood albums.
