im for it because i think it would lower prices on many products and cut the reliance on many chemicals needed to make certain products that it could replace .. it would also cut down on deforestation ... there are many details of the benefits pot would have in industrial usage and in fact it is THE most useful plant known to man ... hence it is illegal because many industries would be hurt by its legalization ... but then again .. its totally asinine to still be driving cars that burn fossil fuel and pollute the environment also when we have the technology to have good electric cars for years now ... bottom line .. everything from the iraq war to doobies being illegal is to benefit the few rich and corporations while the common people bear the brunt of the national burden on their hard work and taxes.

People figured out a long time ago that prohibition was a bad thing. Remember, the 18th amendment prohibited alcohol, then only a few amendments later, the 21st amendment repealed the 18th amendment.

The point is that this generation is too young to understand how important the lesson of prohibition was. Also, alcohol leads to aggressive behavior, whereas cannabis users are quite docile.

The governement is basically telling you how to think. The truth is, the government won't legalize pot because they can't make money off it (people would grow their own). People need to open their eyes and see that a mild-effect drug like cannabis is far, far less harmful than the swill people guzzle in bars "legally". Open your mind, think for yourself.

One in every 142 U.S. residents was in prison or jail [in 2002].1 The number of Americans under the control of the criminal justice system grew by 130,700 [in 2003] to reach a new high of nearly 6.9 million, according to a Justice Department report [released 26 July 2004]. This is about 3.2 percent of the adult population in the United States, the report said, and the total includes people in jail and prison as well as those on probation and parole.2 About 58 percent of federal prisoners are being held for drug law violations.… Among state inmates, approximately 21 percent are confined for drug offenses.

There have been over ten million arrests for marijuana possession since 1970.… While it may be a rare case these days that a person is put in prison for nothing more than smoking a joint, there is fairly solid evidence to conclude that at least 2.4% of total prison inmates are in for marijuana possession. The fact that annually at least 50,000 Americans have had years of their lives taken away for merely possessing marijuana is quite appalling — a plant that at least one third of all Americans have at one time used.… There are well over 720,000 marijuana arrests per year. Of these, the vast majority (88%) are for possession alone.…

Alcohol is a lot worse than marijuana. Consider how many people abuse alcohol and consider the consequences of that. I've never heard of someone beating their wife because they had too much ganja to smoke.
Alcohol is legal for a number of reasons (mostly tradition and a strong lobby). Marijuana is illegal for the same reasons.
Until there's a strong lobby (which requires lots of money) to advocate for marijuana, I wouldn't see things changing for a long time.

I think it should only be legal to fill people's medical needs. Cause when you have cancer or something it can make you not go through so much pain. But I don't think that just anybody should smoke it.

for. the whole war on drugs is such a huge waste of tax dollars. we could spend one tenth of what we do now if we treated the users instead of punishing them. drug addicts are weak and stupid, but thats not a crime, so what good does it do to punish them.
