The NHS loses money for everybody it treats. The last thing the government wants is more people taking up resources. This 'bug' is a selection of different germs that has been going around, mutating and being passed on since there's been life on the planet. Like any macro-biological activity there'll be peaks and troughs - you're simply noticing a peak.

I think a lot of things are released in the air everyday, however; I don't the bug is one of those things. I'm sure we inhale harmful substances all the time. But, when I think of it the bug may just as well be one of the side effects of the polluted air we breathe. You could be right.
