I have been married about a year, and have a son who is 3.5. I love him, but he's not my own. Do I need to pay child support if I get a divorce?

Legally you would be protected. However you would want to ask yourself what is best for the child? Is the biological father in the picture? If not, you may want to consider doing something in the way of support, even if not obligated. Ask yourself how you would feel if that child ended up in a welfare family or in a homeless situation. The child should be put first, and if you truly love the child there is no harm in throwing a little cash down for him even if you are extremely upset with your soon to be ex-wife.

If this child calls you daddy and you plan on having a relationship with him and you are the only father he has ever known. I think that I would feel obligated to him and that is just what I would want to do. After all children are a blessing and if you have the opportunity to help him and participate in his life you should take it. You will be rewarded for it.

I have heard of cases that if you were the sole provider during the year you were together, and you insisted she stay home she may have grounds to go after you for CS as an effort not to disrupt the child's lifestyle. But I think its a long-shot and you could probably have another court over-turn it.

If you adopted him, yes, legally he is considered your son and you'll have to pay it. If you didn't adopt him when you married your wife, then no, you aren't responsible for paying child support for him, his biological father still is.

No, you won't be required to pay in a legal way, but if you love your son and treat him as your own it would be something you could consider to do because you love him on an informal basis. If not money, you could pay for his medical, dental, clothing, etc. expenses. Prayerfully you will be with him forever and not have to consider it =)

Only if you have legally adopted him do you have a legal obligation to do so. But if you truely love him and you have been his "dad" morally it is the right thing to do by supporting him financially.

IF YOU ADOPTED THE CHILD OR EVEN IF YOU PUT YOUR NAME ON THE BIRTH PAPERS, YES YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY. IF HE SEES YOU AS DAD,THEN DON'T TAKE THAT AWAY FROM HIM JUST BECAUSE YOU AND MOM CAN'T MAKE IT. DON'T HURT HIM. I HOPE YOU MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICE.
