I am an insurance actuary and I take global climate change very seriously. I say global climate change in lieu of global warming because some areas of the globe will actually drop in average temps once the system gets pushed past the tipping point. As for whether man caused it or not, I think it is a moot point. It is happening and most likely could not be reversed if every human died tomorrow. The key points are this. 1. Ice reflects almost all of the energy in sunlight. 2. Carbon Dioxide helps trap radiant heat. 3. Ocean currents will alter as regional temps and salinities change. With more ice melting, less energy will be reflected and more heat will be dumped into the system. With more carbon dioxide (and to a lesser extent methane and other gasses) the energy that is no longer being reflected as light will be significantly more efficiently trapped than it would have been as few as 50 years ago. Salinity changes will cause some currents to stay on the surface in lieu of dropping to the ocean floor. Western Europe will ultimately get much colder. Much of the world will be quite a bit warmer. Many tropical diseases will spread away from the equator. Changes in crop yields will be dramatic. Basically, as an insurer who pays attention, I think we're pretty much screwed no matter what we do.

Global warming is deadly serious. But because we can still continue to live a life that provides us physical comfort, enjoyment and satisfaction, the threat of "global warming" to a vast majority is laughed off as "a natural occurence".
All the Al Gores and scientists in the world will NEVER be able to convince an apathetic world population. Earth will be messed up to a point beyond redemption - this is the legacy we are leaving for later generations. It will not be possible for our kids, or his kids to reverse the trend. That's how caring we all are for our children.
No I'm not a pessimist, only a realist who can't find a glimmer of hope. We as a human race are not going to make it.

I am 13 and am very concerned. To reverse global warming..well I'm not sure if its possible. There is so much we can do to make the earth last longer but seems like nobody cares..The thought in 30 years that global warming will take over is crazy. I think they should stop making cars that run on gas and make electric cars. Around where I live i have on seen 2! And of course if there were more of them they would cheaper. I think eventually when the time comes everyone will be surprised, but yet we have been facing this problem for a long time yet. It really has gotten my attention this winter. I live in northen Indiana and we havent had any snow..It snowed one time and that was Oct. 8!!!!!

It's a very serious issue. I haven't seen An Inconvenient Truth yet, but plan to do so. The title sort of says it all doesn't it? It's true that some people continue to deny it is happening simply because they don't want to be inconvenienced. Our family does a few things to try to help, but I know it's not enough. I'm hoping seeing that movie will get me a bit more motivated. I really do care about my children and grandchildren's futures. I think anyone who doesn't is selfish beyond belief. I met a man at a party this summer who first denied it was happening at all, then when presented with facts, finally admitted it but then added he didn't really give a ****. I asked him about his kids, grandkids, etc and he said that's their problem. I was sort of stunned at the depth of his selfishness and lack of concern for the kind of world we leave future generations. People simply do not like to give up their comforts and especially their toys. It may not speak well to their character, but you can't force people to feel a certain way. I'm guessing it will take laws with high fines to actually make people start altering their lives to accommodate the planet.

Regardless of your party or what you think of Al Gore I would recommend watching an Inconvenient Truth.
I firmly believe that global warming is a very serious issue. If we don't take firm and immediate action than we will find ourselves in very serious trouble very quickly. Check out www.climatecrisis.org for a quick overview. I think we need stronger legislation to address these problems.

Global warming is an issue that we all face today, I find it to be both serious and dramatic. I think the best thing we can do as a whole and as individuals are to work towards finding better alternatives to fossil fuels and learning to conserve energy the best we can.

Jeezus...use puncuation.
I, for one, don't care. The world can go *poop* next week. I'll be dead soon. Mankind deserves what it gets for ******* up the planet. Folks can't have all the conveniences in life without paying the price. You want your nice, clean Earth back? Then be prepared to live like they did 200 (or more) years ago. No cars. No plastics. Live off the land and use what the earth provides for you.

I don't know about global warming. Part of me doesn't believe in it because every thousand years or so, the earth changes its climate, but I will agree with you thet we need to act now on many issues so our children do not have to deal with our mistakes.
