You really should not wash them together. I have found that bleach is not as effective in hot water. The hot water disepates the chlorine. I always wash my whites in cold water with a cup of bleach and they never turn out dingy. I also wash all my other clothes in cold water because hot water tends to set stains. My mom's towels were always dingy because she washed everything in hot water.

I wash whites in hot water withe detergent and 1 cup of bleach. Even if you don't have bleach the hot water really helps to keep whites white. To keep your colors from fading use a good quality detergent and cold water. Turn your clothes inside out to protect your colors even more!

I wash whites in hot or warm water with about 1/2 cup of Clorox. and good detergent.
I wash colors separately in cold water with detergent, no Clorox.

Best for whites is plain old clorox bleach,HOT water and here is the key extra rinse. This helps with getting all the bleach out. Hot water for rinse. Lets soak them 20min prior to wash.

Brights brighter, wash with any soap for brights and use warm or cold for wash temp. Cold rinse.
