Drinking and smoking are not dangerous IF they are done in moderation. Sadness, however, well-it depends on the extremity and how well you can keep yourself occupied -- whether with your personal hobbies or the good company of the one closest to you.

Smoking and drinking are very dangerous to your long term health. Both my mother and father smoked most of their lives and while in their 60's began drinking. My mother died of lung cancer at 68. My father of complications from drinking at 72.

And once you start either of these you will not quit.

Sadness as you call it or depression is more immediate and has nothing to do with a persons bad habits.

Depression is quite often beyond your control. If you have depression that you just can't shake, it could be treated with medication. No guarantees that it will all go away but it does help allot. Severe depression can be dangerous because you loose all touch with reality. While everyone else is going on with their life and happy you are stuck with this hopelessness feeling that will not go away.

If you have any of these three problems you have to know they are treatable. But you have to want that help and be willing to work at getting better.

I wish you well.

Your last question is the key! What do YOU think about? To a large degree that will determine whether or not you will smoke, drink, or do anything else to a degree that it will be dangerous. Also, to even a larger degree what you think about will help you control the amount of sadness in your life and more importantly, how much sadness will control your life. Want something to think about to help get over sadness? Think about others and more specifically what you can do to help other people to be happy.

THEY ARE ALL SAME, GIVES YOU SLOW DEATH. AND IT'S VERY HARD TO GET RID OF IT. IF YOU SMOKE, YOU FEEL GOOD WHILE YOU SMOKE, IF YOU DRINK, YOU FEEL GOOD FOR FEW HOURS BUT SADNESS IS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE NO MATTER WHAT IT WILL ALWAYS HURT YOU BAD.
