It depends on what it is. Sometimes you are trying to impress someone and do something you wouldn't normally do.
Other times you may be trying to please someone (usually a loved one or close friend), like a person will wear that hideous sweater aunt Tillie made because he knows it will make aunt Tillie happy and they really like Aunt Tillie.
Sometimes it's a reaction to something or someone who irks you. A teen might go to see a violent movie because mom said don't go. The teen really didn't want to go - but no one is going to tell him/her what to do!!
There are many reasons, some of which are in your other answers. The best thing I can say is - think twice before doing anything and if you don't think it's the best (not your favorite) option, then don't do it.

I've discussed this in class once.
My teacher said it was our emotions.
either love or bravery.
I personally think that it is reaction, sometimes. maybe it's just the right thing to do.

Because we must clearly, or else we wouldn't do them. But all things are a matter of choice. So I guess one must simply become assertive enough, to decide for oneself, one's own actions.

Desire, through karma, actions in thought word and deed are the creator of your life circumstances. Choose carefully the thought you allow to take root in your mind. If you think of and event and you want it to happen it will manifest in your life according to your faith, if you think of the same event and your fear it is going to happen in will manifest in your life according to your faith. By faith i mean belief.

We do things we don't want to do because we only partly don't want to do them. The majority of our will actually does want to do it, even if it doesn't "feel" that way.
