Whe is electronic music so popular in Europe, Middle East, Africa,
Japan, Brazil, Austrailia etc but in the US it is way down the ladder in popuarity. In america you have hip hop, rap, country, rock, jazz but few areas other than major cities where there are electronic music scenes happening? I'm so curious as it seems like electronic music is the music of the future as it is the most versital.

I think it is the sad lack of imagination of a large section of the American consumer population. I mean look at the movies coming out that people spend millions to go and see. For the most part it is all cookie cutter plot lines, bad adaptations from comics or books, or poorly done remakes...where is the originality? Same goes for music....so many just buy or dl the recycled beats they hear on the radio. We are in desperate need of a cultural rennassaince. People are complacent and willing to be fed easily digested entertainment. I find techno/trance to be thought provoking, moving, and simply enjoyable. Shrugs...anyway..thats my rant on the subject. Sorry for coming off as a pretentious prat.

Perhaps there were too many genres when techno first hit the mainstream. There were a ton of different things which confused people I think. Then there was a contraction which made everything Electronica/Techno. Kinda sad cuz Chicago is the birthplace of House and Detroit had a pretty big techno scene early on too.

I think the Techno scene is starting to pick up. I hear it a lot more at restaurants. Madonna's album "Confessions On A Dance Floor" is very housey. I hear remixes of it all the time now. San Francisco hosted the Love Parade in 2005. I think things are looking up. I'm a huge techno fan so this is all good for me. :D

In 2002, the RAVE Act was passed which effectively ended the underground rave scene. Gone are the days of having 5000 people illegally gathered in an abandoned warehouse or in a barn in the middle of nowhere. These days the only electronic music you can really get is at clubs. Unfortunately, they cater to the "masses" so they only play the most popular songs that have been caned to death. Eventually, people get tired of hearing the same songs every week so they stop going while the few who feel like getting their feet wet walk into a club and perpetuate the caning.

Also, the record stores in the US are crap. You can forget about purchasing any independent record labels such as Hooj Choonz, Tresor, Primate, or Monoid; just to name a few. If it isn't on Moonshine, Jive, Sony, or Time-Warner; you can forget about it ever being in a major record store. Which brings me to the point that there are so few independent records stores in the US it sickens me. :P

I agree with you. From my name I listen to and is a huge fan of dance, techno, trance, house, euro, and rave songs. These are the mostly the only songs I listen to. I think rap and hip hop are okay but the most are lame. All they talk about is fancy clothes, drugs, and all that other crap. I listen to them but only the songs that have meanings not like Ridin Dirty or Fergalious. I don't see how people can listen to this crap. But it's a free country and everyone has their own taste.

I really hope not. There are some interesting things done in techno, but trance drives me up the wall. The only techno artist/group I really respect is The Crystal Method.
