what does you lease say?

The grace period is for the late fee ... it does not change the due date for your rent, nor does it give you an extension to pay.

If your rent is due on the 1st, then it is due on the 1st. You just won't be charged a late fee if you pay by the 3rd or the 5th or whatever date your landlord specifies as a grace period.

It's simply a courtesy period allowed by the landlord before you are charged a late fee and has absolutely nothing to do with the date your rent is due by.

You should have a five day grace period, but it depends on what it states in your lease. Some say after the first, you will be charged a late fee. Others will give you a five day notice and then a 14 day notice but by the time it would go to court , thirty days will have passed. The best advice is to call the landlord and explain why you are late and give him a date in writing when it will be paid.

Depends on your lease. Most people I know whose rent is due by the 1st have until the 3rd to pay before they are charged a late fee.

It depends on what your rental agreement/lease states. I rent property to tenants and my rental agreement states that rent is due on the first and late on the fifth of every month. If the first of the month (or the fifth of the month) falls on a weekend or legal holiday then I have to give them until the next business day. Also be aware that landlords now have to give you a 60 day notice to vacate the property. This is now California law, check your state rental laws to find out what your rights are.

Look at a copy of the lease you signed. If there is a grace period, it should be clearly stated. If not, there is no grace period.

Your landlord can issue an eviction notice if you are three days late. However, you may have a more lenient landlord.
