I can understand your worries.

Keep it hidden where you know nobody else can find it.

My system for writing dreams involves a mixture of text and drawings (for when I can't descibe things verbally).

Trust me, tohugh, it really does help! Have fun and good luck interpreting your dreams

There is an application for Macintosh that will help you keep track of your dreams, and might help you understand them or yourself better.

It is called DreamDiary

When you wake up in the night, and remember a dream, you can write down something on a paper pad. In the morning you can have DreamDiary start automatically and you can write your dreams there, using the notes from your pad. You can write what you want, and keep the private stuff private.

DreamDiary will help you sort your dreams. It has these categories: Inner awareness - Activities - Places and People - Life, Death and Religion - Work

You can add your own categories if you dream about a special person or problem. You can paste pictures into as well if you find something online that you want to keep there.

;-D DreamDiary is free. You can find it in the link.

Journaling, of any type, is a wonderful thing. You shouldn't let your fears of other's prying into your business keep you from wriing a journal. If you're very worried, buy a locking cash box of some sort, and keep your journals in there.
