Though I prefer Apple laptops they are not quite in the student budget.

I always suggest Dell for budget laptops. Toshiba makes some nice ones and I have enjoyed them in the past. All the Toshiba laptops friends of mine have purchased as of late have had issues that required replacement of the computer.

Consumer Reports rated the Dell Inspiron e1505 as a best buy ($900) as well as the Toshiba Satellite M100 ($910). The Dell is a bit heavier but has a 15" screen (better for games) and sports a faster processor.

Any Dell or Toshiba laptops is fine. May cost about $1000 to meet all your requirements.
