Pretty much.
I use 480i on my 480p TV. It makes the picture darker, which reduces the effect of burn-in.
i stands for interlaced (the TV projects all the even lines one cycle, then all the odd ones the next cycle. It all happens like 60 times a second so you cant really tell the difference.)
p stands for progressive scan (the TV projects the lines all at once, its the way TV has been done since the beginning).
So anyways it looks the same, it acts the same, and if you didn't know the difference there wouldn't be any.

No, p stands for progressive and i stands for interlaced. It's the way the tv refreshes the picture. Progressive refreshes all the lines on a screen while interlaced only refreshes every other line. So something in 480p would look better than 480i.
