Is Fruit Fattening

2016-10-03 11:29:14 · answer #2 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

Fruit contains fructose and starch, both types of sugar. Fructose has a lower glycemic index than sucrose (table sugar), which means that it takes longer to digest. Starch has the lowest glycemic index. Because it takes longer to digest, it requires more energy spread out over a longer time. This could defintely make you gain weight...but only if you stuffed your face with a lot of fruit and sat on the couch all day. If you are in a good exercsie program, the slow release of fruit carbs can fuel your muscles for a long time and energize you if you are an athlete. In your case, however, cutting out the fruit (along with other carbs) can help you lose weight. It takes your body a lot more energy to digest protein...so try a high protein diet.

For general health and weight control natural foods (such as fruit) are the best choice. Is fruit replacing a fries, chips, muffin or other such 'fattening' foods? If so, then it is definitely a better choice.

When you are dieting, everyone and their brother will have advice for you. First, look at their fitness level, then if they look like they MAY know what they are talking about, research their advice with a simple web search of nutritional (not diet) sites.

Create your own nutritional program here: http://www.mypyramid.gov/

BTW - apples are a 'negative calorie" food meaning it takes more calories to digest one than they actually contain. Same goes for celery. So you can actually burn calories while snacking on these foods.

Well, fruit is sweet and does contain sugar. Still...I wouldn't avoid ALL fruit!

You've heard about the low carb diets, right? Well...fruits are carbs. Potatoes are also carbs. The sugar in fruit and the starch in potatoes essentially do the same thing. Even so, potatoes contain vitamin C and other nutrients which make them worth eating in moderation, just like fruit.

Either way...a piece of fruit that replaces a piece of cake is ALWAYS a good thing!

It is a natural sugar, not a refined sugar and takes longer for your body to break down for energy (which is a good thing). You want to stay away from refined sugars and foods --- think WHITE. Avoid White sugar, white bread, white pasta, white rice etc. Fruit in moderation is healthy for you as you are not only getting complex carbohydrates you are also getting vitamins and fiber that is essential for good health. The key is moderation, a lot of any food will cause you to gain weight.
***Bananas do not have protein in them! They have potassium but no protein!

Fruit also has vitamins and minerals in it. Yes, it has sugar...but it depends on the CALORIE intake as to whether or not you will gain weight from it. Research that.

no i dont think it is fattening.. the sugar in fruit is good, easily digested but dont eat too many bananas, i hear that they have loads of protein.. and bodybuilders eat loads to help build up muscles. But on the whole, fruit is a good addition to any weight loss regime. Good Luck!!
