A very small price (sometimes nothing) to be kind. The cost, I think, is much higher when someone is unkind.

No, not at all. Mother Theresa (1910-1997) said, "Kind words can be short and easy to speak but their echoes are truly endless." Therefore, it does not cost us anything to be kind, for instance, we simply help some people/tourists who don't know the way to visit a certain place or to meet someone at a certain building by informing them politely with the right information, such kindness will remain in their heart/memory for ever. I had my own experience when my colleagues and I went to visit Bath, the famous city in the UK in 1997. I thought I got lost and didn't know the way to get back to the bus parking area as appointed. So I asked for help from a young man, he was very kind to tell me how to reach the area and, in a hurry, I forgot to ask his name & email address so that I could thank him later. I've always felt appreciated for his kind help since then.

I dunno, I think it actually does start costing you after a while, especially if you start to be "TOO kind". You might start sacrificing yourself (not literally) for another person, or they might start taking advantage of and walk all over you...Just what I think from personal experiences.

Edit: "Be Kind; Rewind" --Blockbuster

in the beginning. at first you feel that you are giving up part of your happiness by letting that person take the last cookie or drink, but soon, their happiness adds to your happiness. in the end you are both feeling good. win-win.

It depends on how you look at it. There is more to your question then you understand.
