Actually I don't use that phrase at all.....but I really should start using it instead of swearing at times.....

I have used it many times since a lot of people at the school I go to seem to like to spread a lot of unfounded rumors

This is a phrase used in desparate times, arguments gone awry. I avoid arguments.
