What's not to like about Ken Griffey Jr.? When he started out his career with the Mariners, he brought excitement to a team that was not that good. He made fantastic catches in center field and smacked the cover off of the ball. The word that would best describe his style of play would be "hustle". An example of his attitude towards winning and making great plays is when he made a catch up against the wall in the Kingdome and broke his wrist on that play. He even threw the ball into the infield before grasping his broken wrist. He helped keep the M's in Seattle too. They were about to be shipped out until he helped this team begin to improve and bring fans to the ballpark.
Griffey could hit for average and power and was an MVP caliber player. I would say now he is more of a plain power hitter, as his average has started to dip. If he could stay healthy he could be a player that can help his team to the playoffs. His defense now is mediocre, nowhere near what it was before. He has been hurt from hustling too much.
I don't know what there is to not like about him. He left the Mariners and I am a Mariners fan, but I still think he's ok. I can understand if you are a Reds fan, because if I were a Reds fan I would be thinking to myself, "And he is getting paid over $100 million to not even play full seasons?"
Griffey is a good player and I think he deserves a spot in the Hall of Fame. Too answer your question though, I would have to say yes, I like Ken Griffey Jr as a great baseball player.

I have been a Mariner fan all my life, and I remember when I would go to the Kingdome and watch Griffey Jr. play. His catches and timely hitting helped the Mariners in 1995. I still love Griffey and if we are talking about former Mariner players that are no longer well liked you would definitely have to go with either Alex Rodriguez (or Payrod as we call him) or Randy Johnson (His finger hurts and lets act like a baby) at least from a Washingtonian p.o.v

i'm from Seattle and I can't stand the guy. I am a baseball purist and MLB is not my favorite league. Too many showboats, Griffey being their king. That man had the talent and potential to become the greatest ever , but he was lazy and he swung for the fence. His swing was better suited for golf most of the time. He had speed, but he'd jog to 1st if he hit it on the infield. Slow dribblers can be beat out, but I never saw him try. I appreciate hustle and effort and heart on the field, and I never saw that out of Griffey.
On the other hand, in CF he did extremely well. I did enjoy watching him play out there. He was amazing, catching the uncatchable, going all out, crashing into the wall and breaking his wrist..... In the field, he was great.

Can't say anything bad about Griffey Jr. He goes out there every year and plays all out. Even with his injuries that have lagged him, he always seems to set it aside and do his job when healthy again. And also, you never, ever, see him complain about what happens to him. You would think that the frustration would boil over at one point for being one tof the league's most gifted players. And, has he ever complained about being stuck on a losing Cincy team year after year when he is capable of bringing other teams championships?? Never. He is a true class act gentleman and aside from the injury burdon, one of the greatest players of all time. Hats of to you Griffey!!

I really like Ken Griffey Jr. because of his all-out play which leads to the numerous injuries he has endured. If not for the injuries we would probably be watching him chasing aaron's record as well as barry bonds who is a disgrace to the great game of baseball.

Ken Griffey Jr always has and always will be my favorite player. He was such a promising athlete, a great person who I was lucky enough to meet twice. He has nothing but love for the game. He took the hometown discount to come to cincinnati, a mistake that will cost him many records. If he had stayed healthy, he would have been the one fighting for aaron's record. Even as it is, he is a first ballot hall of famer, and a first class individual.

It was easy to be a nice guy when things were gong his way but when there were bumps in the road he ended up like many players do, defensive and difficult to be around. He was voted as one of the top 100 players of all time and I guess he might be but that doesn't change the fact that he never won a championship and probably won't. To me he is just another spoiled over paid jock.

Yes I like him, even though since going to Cincinatti he's had injury problems he's one of the purest hitters in the game. I think he'd be on the verge of breaking Hank Aarons HR record had he not been injured so much.

He seems pretty awesome. I've said this before but i really hate it when people say bad stuff about high class athletes when they sit at home watching them. I really don't get that sorry. I think they should be respected, even if just a little bit. He's a great player. I think he's cool.

Yes, I wish he was able to stay healthy though, it would have made baseball that much more exciting. Sorry to see such a fantastic player's FULL potential remain unknown because of the injuries.
